La Nouvelle Scène Gilles Desjardins is a francophone theatre and gathering place near the lively ByWard Market area that presents plays, concerts, festival events and more.

Four French-language theatre companies came together to open La Nouvelle Scène in 1999. Originally presenting only plays, the organization has expanded its mission to also include dance, music, film screenings and visual arts. In 2013, the repurposed original building was torn down, to be replaced by a glittering new complex that opened in late 2016. Today, the four founding and resident companies continue to present a diverse range of francophone productions.

Enjoy a drink before or after your show at the theatre's Le Bistro Marcel Lavallée, with its stage for live music and appealing outdoor terrace. You can also check out works by local artists at the John Ruddy Gallery.
