Community Membership

Add your voice to the tourism industry and help shape the future of the destination. 

Community Members include Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), tourism or business associations, chambers of commerce and universities.

As a Community Member, you’ll gain exclusive access to:

  • Research, tools and industry insights to support business growth
  • Professional training opportunities through programs like Shine On Academy
  • Networking and collaboration opportunities with other local organizations and leaders in Ottawa’s visitor economy
  • Advocacy and participation in consultations and committees that influence tourism development

Industry Membership

Access valuable industry insights, business opportunities, marketing exposure and partnership opportunities designed for visitor-facing businesses in Ottawa. 

Industry Members represent accommodations, attractions, restaurants, retail businesses, tour services, meeting and event planners, convention facilities, transportation providers, sports organizations and more.

Industry Members enjoy all Community Member benefits plus:

  • Access to paid marketing and promotion opportunities, such as featured listings, content collaborations and campaign partnerships
  • Eligibility for Travel Trade and Business and Major Events business opportunities through the Market Readiness Programs.

Businesses and organizations who join Ottawa Tourism show a commitment to the local tourism community and stay connected to the latest industry news and developments. Member businesses contribute to and benefit from advocacy efforts to local, provincial and federal government decision-makers.

Industry members who wish to leverage Ottawa Tourism’s sales and marketing reach can apply for membership add-ons and can participate in a variety of opportunities to work more closely with the Ottawa Tourism team.

Travel Trade

Focused on promoting packaged travel, Ottawa Tourism’s Travel Trade team works with tour operators, student tour operators, travel agents and travel professionals to offer successful Ottawa travel experiences for their clients. Travel Trade showcases the range of experiences available to group tours or fully independent travelers (FIT) who purchase packaged travel to visit Ottawa. 

The Travel Trade add-on provides you with opportunities to connect with tour operators and receptive operators, through activities, events, promotions, FAM tours, digital advertising opportunities and partnerships, referrals and leads (some opportunities may have additional costs to participate).

Business, meetings, convention, networking
Business and Major Events

Ottawa Tourism’s Business and Major Events sales team is dedicated to attracting national and international sport, convention and major gatherings to Ottawa. The team identifies and pursues high-value opportunities for events, builds strong relationships with clients in priority markets and delivers integrated marketing initiatives that elevate Ottawa’s profile as a leading meeting destination. The Business Events team also travels extensively to showcase all that Ottawa offers to business event organizers, bringing home qualified leads that benefit Ottawa Tourism's Business Events members. 

The Business and Major Events add-on provides enhanced opportunities to connect and engage with group business. Members gain access to the convention calendar, referrals and qualified leads where appropriate. Member businesses can also participate in sales call opportunities, industry conferences and tradeshows, market education and training. Working across both domestic and international markets, these teams help position Ottawa to help you win the business.

Through strategic marketing campaigns, Ottawa Tourism attracts visitors and encourages residents to become Ottawa’s greatest ambassadors. Destination Development

Ottawa Tourism works on strategies to enhance the city’s appeal as a travel destination, aiming to deliver outstanding experiences that turn visitors into enthusiastic ambassadors. Destination Development initiatives include gathering feedback from visitors, funding new and innovative tourism projects (with the Destination Development Fund, among others) and various other projects to make Ottawa a more vibrant, sustainable, accessible place. Ottawa Tourism also values input from industry experts and forges strategic partnerships to pilot new initiatives or advocate for policy improvements. Ultimately, these efforts strive to position Ottawa as Canada’s top destination by addressing challenges and seizing new tourism opportunities.

As the voice of Ottawa’s tourism industry, Ottawa Tourism invests in and collaborates with stakeholders on projects and strategies that improve Ottawa as a tourism destination and works to influence decision-makers on tourism policy issues that directly impact local businesses. The end goal is to make Ottawa one of the most visited, vibrant and valued urban destinations in Canada.

Ottawa Tourism provides learning and professional development opportunities to members. Ottawa Tourism brings the industry together at networking events designed to inspire members and foster collaboration and synergies across the destination.

Ottawa Tourism is also committed to strengthening our destination through programs such as those outlined below. 

The Capacity Building Programs are designed to support members in building resilience and futureproofing their businesses by bolstering capacity through training programs targeting sustainability, accessibility and reconciliation in action. 

The Shine On Program is an interactive tourism learning tool that covers customer service best practices and what to see and do in the destination. The Program bolsters excellence in frontline customer service through the Shine On Academy and Shine On Awards.

Frequently asked questions

  • Am I eligible to become a member?

    Businesses located in the Ottawa area that offer experiences or services that enhance Ottawa’s appeal as a tourism destination are eligible for membership.

    Only businesses located within the City of Ottawa boundaries are eligible to vote at the AGM and be elected to the Board of Directors.

    Accommodation providers located outside of the City of Ottawa boundaries are not eligible for membership with Ottawa Tourism.

  • How much does it cost to become a member?

    There is no cost for membership. Ottawa Tourism believes that removing barriers to membership allows for greater collaboration and sets the stage for a stronger tourism community.

    Industry members who wish to leverage Ottawa Tourism’s sales and marketing efforts can choose to participate in a variety of paid opportunities that allow them to work more closely with our teams and leverage targeted activities.

  • How can I promote an event on the Ottawa Tourism website?

    You can submit a request to have your event included on the Event Calendar. You do not have to be an Ottawa Tourism member to do this, however, as this is a tourism-related calendar, the listings should be events or activities in which tourists can participate. Consult this checklist for more details on how to submit an event.
