Ottawa announced as 2024 Canadian Boccia Championships host
This November, Ottawa will host the 30th anniversary of the Canadian Boccia Championships for the first time. From November 13 to 17 at the RA Centre, Canada’s top boccia athletes will compete across six classifications, including the 2024 Paralympic Boccia Team.
Boccia, a Paralympic sport for athletes with disabilities like Cerebral Palsy and Muscular Dystrophy, highlights the spirit of inclusivity in Canada’s capital region. Spectators and volunteers are encouraged to join and witness incredible athleticism in action at the pinnacle of competitive boccia.
Women’s professional soccer returns to Ottawa with Ottawa Rapid FC
Ottawa Rapid FC is officially the capital's team in the newly formed Northern Super League (NSL), set to debut next spring and the team’s name, badge and colors were recently revealed.
The name "Rapid" symbolizes speed, progress, and a deep connection to Ottawa’s geography, particularly the region’s rivers. The team’s badge features a Peregrine Falcon in attack position, with blue hues representing water and sky, and neon orange paying tribute to the Centennial Flame’s resilience.
Ottawa Rapid FC is focused on championing gender equity in sport with the team’s leadership including COO Stephanie Spruston, Chief Sport Officer Heidi Bloomfield and Technical Director Kristina Kiss, a former national team player.
The league consists of six teams and is scheduled to begin play in April 2025.
