Outdoor summer fun: an Ottawa itinerary

With warm summer weather and easy to access outdoor activities, Canada’s capital is the perfect getaway destination for a bit of adventure. Urban sites, countryside treasures and tasty food are all within easy reach of your hotel. Use the itinerary below to start planning your warm-weather visit to Ottawa!

DAY 1 – Biking, zip-lining and jumping

Arrive in Ottawa and check into the hotel of your choice. Most of our accommodation members are located downtown near many of the city’s main attractions.

Bring your own bike or rent one here and explore Ottawa’s cycling trails. With over 800 kilometres (497 miles) of recreational pathways within the city and in the countryside, it’s up to you to choose between flat, leisurely routes and challenging mountain biking trails!

Experience the beauty of the Gatineau Hills at Camp Fortune’s Explorer Park, just 15 minutes from downtown Ottawa in Gatineau, Quebec! Zip-line through the trees and make your way across hanging ladders and twisting bridges.

Canada’s highest bungee jump is just a 20-minute drive from downtown Ottawa, at the Great Canadian Bungee. The jump rebound alone is higher than any other full jump in the country. Put that on your bucket list!

All that pumping adrenaline will make you hungry. Have a satisfying meal at one of Ottawa’s great restaurants or consider some delicious vegetarian and vegan options.

DAY 2 – Paddling, rafting and sipping

Get your morning jolt of locally-brewed caffeine and some tasty breakfast treats at some of Ottawa’s independent coffee roasters.

Paddle to your heart’s content on the calm waterways that criss-cross Canada’s capital. Whether you have your own standup paddleboard (SUP), kayak or canoe, or you rent one here, you’ll love exploring this paddling paradise.

Splashing through raging rapids is a great way to cool off in the summer. Go on a gentle whitewater rafting excursion within the city, or head into the countryside just west of Ottawa for some of the world’s best whitewater action.

After a full day in the sun, it’s time to relax and sip a cold beverage. Explore Ottawa’s hopping craft beer scene by visiting breweries, joining a tour or attending events. Or sip some something delicious on a relaxing outdoor patio. Cheers!

DAY 3 – Hiking, flying and partying

Fuel up for your last day of exploration by trying one of Ottawa’s hot brunch spots.

Land-based adventures are everywhere throughout Canada’s capital. Get out and hike or walk the urban pathways just outside your hotel or explore the nearby wilderness trails that surround the city. From flat and easy to steep and expert, you’ll love exploring these hiking highlights in the Ottawa area!

Enjoy the best views of Ottawa from an authentic, WWII-era WACO UPF-7 biplane! Ottawa Aviation Adventures (formerly Ottawa Biplane Adventures) invites you to sit back in the open cockpit and hang tight as you soar above the city’s majestic Ottawa River and downtown Ottawa – including views of Parliament Hill.

When it’s time to head indoors and celebrate a weekend of excitement, head to the Casino du Lac-Leamy, located just 10 minutes from downtown Ottawa. Dance to DJ tunes at Club Aléa, try your luck on the casino floor or enjoy a meal at one of the on-site restaurants.
