Residents encouraged to participate in building a 10-year plan
OTTAWA, December 15, 2021—Ottawa Tourism has engaged Resonance Consultancy to develop a 10-year Destination Master Plan and area residents are encouraged to share their input on the tourism landscape. A survey is available in English and in French looking for feedback on Ottawa’s strengths and weaknesses, and asking for people to prioritize key issues for the tourism sector.
“Tourism is a shared community asset and recognizing its importance is key to building a stronger city. The time is right to bring together stakeholders beyond a narrowly-defined tourism family,” says Michael Crockatt, President and CEO of Ottawa Tourism. “The assets that make Ottawa a great place to visit or host meetings and events are also what makes Ottawa great for the people who live here; it’s all interconnected and we all have a role to play to create a thriving, sustainable industry that benefits the entire community.”
The plan will:
- define the tourism vision for Ottawa over the next decade;
- present strategic directions, priority areas and action items to create long-term community prosperity for Ottawa through tourism; and
- serve as the collective tourism roadmap to ensure the long-term sustainability of the destination and grow Ottawa’s competitive position as a national and international destination of choice.
Building on other Ottawa Tourism projects—including its Economic Impact Study and Place DNATM work in 2019; as well as Ottawa Tourism’s new 5-year strategic plan, which Resonance is currently developing—Resonance will synthesize the results of the survey of residents, benchmark Ottawa’s assets, compare Ottawa to a competitive set of destinations, track Ottawa’s progress across key trends, interview key stakeholders, and ultimately develop the Destination Master Plan by mid-2022. They will be guided in their work by a steering committee of public and private stakeholders.
Resonance is a leading global advisor on placemaking, branding and marketing for the world’s best cities, districts, developments, and destinations.
