Media release: Lumen Eira Illumination to open in Confederation Park

OTTAWA, January 16, 2025 — Ottawa Tourism announces the launch of Lumen Eira, an evocative and entirely free illumination experience set to animate Confederation Park for the duration of Winterlude, from January 31 to February 17, running between 4 p.m. and 12 a.m. This project is being produced by Limbic Media, renowned for their innovative light and sound installations.

In presenting Lumen Eira at Confederation Park, Ottawa Tourism aims to complement the Winterlude experience with an inspiring, accessible, and family-friendly offering. Visitors are invited to experience the wonder of Lumen Eira, where light and sound come together to transform Confederation Park into a magical evening escape. Stroll through the glowing Faery Forest, where illuminated trees pulse with colors in tune with custom soundscapes inspired by nature and imagination. Gather around the captivating Fountain Fire installation, a luminous sculpture evoking the warmth of a crackling bonfire. Let the interplay of light, sound, and winter’s magic draw you into a world where reality is suspended, and imagination takes center stage.

“We are excited to offer Lumen Eira at Confederation Park this year just as Canadian Heritage is holding Winterlude and the NCC is offering the Rideau Canal Skateway, adding to the vibrancy of our downtown and to the array of reasons people will want to travel to Ottawa,” says Michael Crockatt, President and CEO of Ottawa Tourism. “This captivating light show will not only enhance the beauty of Confederation Park but also provide a unique experience for residents and visitors alike. We invite everyone to come and enjoy the illuminations and make unforgettable memories with family and friends.”

“Ottawa is renowned for its exceptional urban parks and natural spaces, and Confederation Park is undoubtedly one of its gems,” says Tobi Nussbaum, President & CEO of the National Capital Commission. “This initiative not only enhances the park's beauty but also serves as a link between Centretown and the Rideau Canal Skateway, aligning perfectly with our mission to be responsible stewards of Ottawa's natural spaces and to connect people with the capital's stunning sites.”
