Story one: What’s Up in Ottawa?

Ottawa Senators New NHL Season

The city's National Hockey League (NHL) team, the Ottawa Senators, play at the Canadian Tire Centre (CTC) in Kanata, a western suburb. The NHL season runs from October to April, followed by the Stanley Cup playoffs in May and June. The team is colloquially known as the Sens, and their friendly mascot Spartacat loves to get the crowd pumped up.

PWHL New Season

The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) was founded in 2023 and consists of six teams across North America. The Ottawa branch — PWHL Ottawa — played it's first regular season game at the TD Place on January 2, 2024 to a sold out crowd against Montréal. While the 2024-25 season dates haven't been released yet, the regular season runs from early January to early May

National Remembrance Day Ceremony

November 11, 2024

Each year on November 11, the Royal Canadian Legion hosts the National Remembrance Day Ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa to commemorate the men and women who have served in Canada’s military. The ceremony starts at approximately 10:45 a.m. with the arrival of dignitaries such as the Prime Minister, the Governor General of Canada, and the Silver Cross Mother – a woman whose child has died while serving in the military. Additional programming includes the national anthem, two minutes of silence, a wreath-laying ceremony and a rousing fly-past (weather permitting). At the end of the National Ceremony and throughout the day, people remove poppies from their coats and place them on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The tomb is covered in red poppies by the end of the day.
