Black History Month 2025 is here in Ottawa! In honour of this important month, Hors Pair Social, a social group and events company, has curated a list of events and activities hosted by Black organizations or those that celebrate Black culture and history in Canada’s capital. From dance workshops to tennis tournaments and Afro-Caribbean chef tasting menus, there are plenty of exciting events to choose from.

Sing your heart out at 613RnB

Hosted by Pieces of Us, 613RnB, is an intimate premier R&B experience, this evening offers a chance to unwind and reconnect with your favourite hits and slow jams. The Valentine’s Day edition will take a Club SAW.

Hit your best serve at the serve Afro Caribbean Indoor Tennis Finals

This vibrant indoor event will conclude with the finals on Sunday, February 23, offering an exciting and spirited environment where community members can come together to support their favorite teams and experience the dynamic energy of this unique tournament!

Take a trip to the islands with a Steelpan show at the National Arts Centre

Conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser is back for another musical party at Southam Hall in this brand-new concert series celebrating the rich heritage of Afro-Caribbean calypso music! The NAC Orchestra will be joined by members of the acclaimed Steelband Pan Fantasy and renowned vocalists King Cosmos, Macomere Fifi, and Kimya Hypolite to transport you to Trinidad and Tobago, the vibrant heart of calypso music. The Steelpan Symphony Show will take place from February 27 to March 1.

Break a sweat at Fit Fest Ottawa

Bust a move at the Afrobeats dance workshops by Moov Ottawa

Moov is a professional Street Dance Company that specializes in the styles of Hip Hop, House, Waacking, Breaking "Break Dance" and more. In partnership with National Arts Centre and in honour of Black History, Moov Ottawa will be hosting 3 dance workshops including an Afrobeats Dance workshop on February 23.

Get a taste of Africa and the Caribbean at Table Zaire

On February 22, Chef Nice Mena will bring to you Table Zaire: an afro-fusion culinary chef's tasting menu with dishes inspired by culinary experiences in Africa, the Caribbean, and beyond! This experience features a unique menu alongside carefully curated non-alcoholic drink pairings created.

Explore Nigeria’s legends at Whispers from Tradition

Explore Nigeria’s untold legends, with Whispers from Tradition, where ancient myths, long whispered by griots and elders, are brought back to life. With storytellers Uchechi Ogbonna and Alaukwu Anozie, accompanied by live music and vibrant visuals inspired by Nigeria’s traditional art, this performance celebrates African storytelling and its profound influence on the global Black experience.

Network with Entrepreneurs and Creators at PluggedIn

​So Plugged welcomes you on February 8 at Bayview Yards for PluggedIn: a day of networking, learning, and growing your business. This event is designed to provide Black creatives and founders with the tools, connections, and insights needed to take their venture to the next level, whether their just starting out or already running a business.

Shop till you drop at Bring it Black

Bring It Black — Black Future Market is a Black business vendors market hosted by Tribe.co & Next Door Ottawa. This special market event shines a spotlight on the creativity, resilience, and excellence of Black entrepreneurs in the Black community. The day will be filled with unique products & services from local Black-owned micro-businesses, delicious food and beverages crafted by talented locals, live entertainment showcasing Black culture and artistry, opportunities to connect and network with entrepreneurs and community members.

Immerse yourself in Black art at Black Out Night

On February 15, the National Arts Centre’s English Theatre will host the next NAC Black Out Night, featuring a lively evening of entertainment and festivities inspired by Andrea Scott's 'Controlled Damage'. The evening of February 15 will include a Pre-show chat, performance of ‘Controlled Damage' in the Babs Asper Theatre and Renaissance: Official Black Out Night After Party curated by Hors Pair Social! Embracing the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance & Roaring Twenties — guests are invited to dress in period-inspired attire! Event will include performances by The Lionyls, Miss Mcleod and Jayel.
