Greenbelt

National Capital Greenbelt

Follow National Capital Greenbelt

Hike, bike, cross-country ski, learn about nature and visit heritage sites in this environmental gem, which encircles Ottawa with 20,000 hectares (almost 50,000 acres) of wetlands, woods and other unspoiled green spaces.

Discover fascinating wilderness in ’the National Capital Greenbelt's 16 conservation and recreation areas, conveniently located inside the city limits. In Stony Swamp, see historical ruins along the Lime Kiln Trail, or look for barred owls and black-backed woodpeckers along the Jack Pine Trail. Hike over 20 kilometres (12 miles) of scenic routes—including a 1.2-kilometre (0.7 mile) accessible boardwalk—through the Mer Bleue Bog, home to plants typical of much more northern climates. There are so many ways to connect with the outdoors in Ottawa's suburban and rural parks!

All Greenbelt sites are free and open year round, but access to facilities and activities may vary based on the season.
