Program overview
The ReconciliAction capacity building program is designed to help tourism businesses deepen their understanding of and linkages to Indigenous Peoples and heritage. This program supports Ottawa Tourism members in building authentic connections and learning how to amplify Indigenous voices while showcasing the breadth of experiences and products available to visitors. Participants will expand their understanding of cultural protocols, frameworks to support visitor learning, and effective partnership development with Indigenous (-owned or -led) businesses. The cohort approach allows members to learn from one another and leverage the strengths of the group to build capacity together.
The training will consist of three in-person or online training sessions starting in spring 2026, culminating in access to a supplier fair with Indigenous businesses.
- Grounding: acquire foundational knowledge and resources.
- Growing: learn about engaging with elders and performers, following relevant protocols and the difference between appropriation and appreciation.
- Reconciliation in Action: learn about the Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action 92 and get inspired from partnerships between tourism operators and Indigenous businesses.
- Indigenous supplier fair: make the most of this fair to build business relationships with vendors directly.
