Brew Donkey Tours

Throw an awesome bachelor party in Ottawa!

So you’re getting married, or perhaps your best friend is getting married and you’ve been appointed to the important position of Best Man, either way a send-off bachelor party is in the cards and Ottawa, Canada’s Capital, is the perfect place to host it!

Whether you’re looking to keep it classy or to kick up the wild, adventurous factor, Ottawa has a scene that is sure to please the most discerning of bachelors and their guests. And the best part? Most of the city’s best activities are within a short, 20-minute walk or drive from most downtown area hotels. For the most part, you can come to town, park the car and head out to celebrate one of life’s biggest milestones. Here are a few helpful ideas to get your pre-wedding celebration with the guys started:

Beer tasting: Locally-owned company Brew Donkey offers craft brewery tours of Ottawa and its surrounding regions. Offering full-day tours, Brew Donkey invites its guests aboard a beer bus that stops at local craft breweries as well as wineries such as Cassel Brewery Co., Beau’s All Natural Brewing Company and Domaine Perrault, among many others. And the best part? Local craft beer and wine samples are provided all along the way! Some tours even include activities such as axe throwing and escape rooms!

Or if you don’t want to venture far from Ottawa’s downtown area, you can round up the guys and go brewery hopping on foot. Many of the craft breweries and restaurants that specialize in beer are within walking distance of each other in the city’s busy downtown core. In the ByWard Market neighbourhood for example, easily accessible stops include the Clocktower Brew Pub, Lowertown Brewery, Waller St. Brewing and Brothers Beer Bistro.

Golfing: Did you know that Ottawa is home to more than 70 golf courses? If you are visiting during the warmer weather months, this is the perfect daytime bachelor party activity. Simply decide if you want to play nine or 18 holes and head to a course nearby.

Just a 15-minute drive or taxi ride west of Ottawa’s downtown core, you’ll find the breathtaking Marshes Golf Club at the Brookstreet Hotel in Kanata. Opt to play a full game at The Marshes course, whose immaculate greens and crystal-blue lakes weave their way through modern towers of glass and steel, while the Gatineau Hills provide a beautiful backdrop. Or for a shorter game, play the Marchwood Golf Course; a smaller-scale, PGA-approved course. The Marchwood is still a test of golf ability, but its smaller size allows you to get around the course in less time.

Driving a race car: If an adrenaline rush is what you’re after, you can find it just past Ottawa’s city limits. Located at about a 45-minute drive west of downtown Ottawa, the Calabogie Motorsports Park offers the track ready Mustang Drive Experience. Take a track ready car, complete with a roll cage, racing seats and a six-point harness, for four exhilarating laps around Calabogie’s racetrack. Enjoy the thrill of passing Porsches, Corvettes, BMWs and more! The Calabogie Motorsports Park offers various driving experience packages for different driver levels. Go around the track and see who gets the fastest lap!

Private yachting: Ottawa Private Yacht Tours is a great option if you want to get to the Casino in a VIP way. Leave from the famous Ottawa Locks in a private yacht and take in beautiful views of the Parliament Buildings as you float along the Ottawa River to Leamy Lake. And don't worry, everything will be taken care of as the 38-foot boat comes with a captain and a crew. Enjoy drinks, music and an on-board BBQ!

Throwing axes: The guys are sure to enjoy throwing axes around – at targets of course. At BATL Axe Throwing Ottawa, you can reserve a private throwing area with an experienced coach and of course, target practice. If you want to make a night of it, BATL can help you with that. Here, you'll also find a fully-licensed bar and kitchen. Throw a few axes and then, celebrate with a pint of local craft beer and casual finger foods. The group is sure to have a laid-back and memorable evening!

Everything else: Looking for unprecedented access to exclusive experiences in the Ottawa region? Local company XPR might be able to arrange anything you (or the groom-to-be) have ever dreamed of! Learn how to drive a military Humvee, or get handgun and rifle shooting training from Canada’s best special forces operatives (not available anywhere else in Canada!); or forge your own knife at a traditional coal fire forge with a professional blacksmith; or perfect your poker game with coaching from a pro. The awesome options are endless!

Clubbing and gaming: No matter which activities you choose, you’ll want to keep celebrating long after the sun goes down, and there’s no better place to do that than at ALÉA Nightclub.

ALÉA is located at the extravagant Casino du Lac-Leamy and is one of the Ottawa-Gatineau region’s hottest nightclubs! This exclusive club, which has a capacity of only 219 guests, sits in the middle of the Casino’s busy gaming floor and in true modern fashion; it appears to be suspended from the ceiling. Head into this bronzed, cylindrical club to dance the night away to the latest House music beats. And if you need a break from the club scene, go onto the Casino’s gaming floor and play to your heart’s content.

Or to take your bachelor experience to a more VIP-style level, begin your evening with dinner at the Casino’s gourmet restaurant Le Baccara. Go as a group and savour a gourmet, French-inspired meal paired with wine from Le Baccara’s wine cellar, which is home to 500 different wine varieties and is part of a larger 13,000-bottle collection. You’re sure to have a night to remember!

Ottawa is a sophisticated, cosmopolitan capital where gourmet delights, the arts and even high-end shopping flourish. But with its vast green spaces, so many exciting, outdoor adrenaline-filled activities abound. With a wide selection of things to see and do, you can easily tailor a getaway to the tastes of any groom-to-be. For more ideas, explore Ottawa Tourism's See & Do page.
