Make an authentic connection with Indigenous culture through traditional music, dance, storytelling, food and activities in Canada’s capital.
Indigenous Experiences presents the diversity of Indigenous communities to locals and visitors in a variety of engaging ways. The attraction’s main site, located just southwest of downtown Ottawa, is aptly named Mādahòkì Farm (Mādahòkì means “to share the land” in the Anishnaabe language). Visitors can attend large seasonal events such as the popular Summer Solstice Festival, and groups can arrange special visits year round. The farm features large indoor and outdoor spaces, animals such as rare and endangered Ojibwe Spirit Horses, and a boutique filled with authentic Indigenous items.
Between May and September, Indigenous Experiences also welcomes groups on the grounds of the Canadian Museum of History. At this seasonal location along the Ottawa River across from Parliament Hill, groups can reserve special packages that include Indigenous meals, interactive crafts and Pow Wow dancing. Groups also have the option to experience the Ottawa River as the First Peoples and early explorers once did – on the water. The Canadian Odyssey experience includes a guided tour of the Canadian Museum of History, as well as a 90-minute expedition aboard a traditional Montréal canoe with a costumed interpreter.
